There is the downward facing moon which eclipses the upward facing sun. The Kāraṇa (exercise) should be known therefore, whereby the nectar comes from the middle. 18
Above the navel and below the palate respectively are the Sūrya (sun) and Chandra (moon). The exercise known as Reversal (Viparīta Kāraṇa) is acquired through the instruction of a guru, 19
Grahayāmala
That retention of the air in the mouth when exhalation (recaka) and inhalation (pūraka) have been left off, this is the prāṇāyāma that is truly called Sole Retention (kevala kumbhaka). 20
By sixty-two prāṇāyāmas good (true) concentration (dhāraṇa) is produced; by sixty-two dhāraṇas̄ meditative contemplation (dhyāna), by the experts in meditation. 21
By just twelve mātras of dhyāna, samādhi is established. In this samādhi the supreme infinite light is omnipresent. In the perception of that no activity of coming and going whatever is found. 22
From the Yoga Svarodaya
Let him do one round of kevala kumbhaka daily. For, in this way there is pratyāhāra; therefore, he should do it properly.23
When the yogī in the state of kumbhaka manifestly withdraws the sense-organs from the sense-objects (indriyāni indriyārthebhyo), this is called pratyāhāra. 24
Whatever he sees with the eyes, let him meditate on that as being within the Self. Whatever he smells with the nose, let him meditate on it as being within the Self. 25
Whatever he hears with the ears, let him meditate on that as being within the Self. Whatever he tastes with the tongue, let him meditate as being within the Self. 26
In this way, let him curb the wanderings of the organs of knowledge (jñanendriya). Hour by hour, every day, let the yogī indefatigably make effort. 27
Then various abilities assuredly arise for the yogī: tele-audience (dūra-śruti), tele-vision (dūra-dṛṣṭi), as well as momentary tele-portation (kṣanād dūrasthiti). 28
Prophecy (vāk-siddhi), travel at will (kāma-charatvam); then he becomes invisible (at will); also, turning metals into gold by rubbing them with his feces and urine. 29
From proper and constant practice of yoga there should be the ability of sky travel (khecaratvam). Therefore, let the intelligent yogī cultivate [the practice of yoga] for yoga siddhi. 30
There are these obstacles to great siddhi (mahāsiddhi); the intelligent should never revel in them: let him never exhibit or mention his abilities to anyone. 31
Sometimes he may show himself as a mortal or one engaged in devotion (bhakti), or again, as a fool (mūrkha), or a mad-man (madho), or even as a deaf man (badhira).32
Thus, let him live among people in order to conceal his abilities [from the world]. Nevertheless, he has many disciples, there is no doubt. 33
People always supplicate the Lord of Yogīs according to their individual concerns. Distracted and engrossed by the performance of this activity, he might become lax in his own practice and study. Deprived of practice, he might then fall into the state of being an ordinary worldly man. 34
Thus [ends] the Sixth Chapter in the Consensus of Yoga composed by Aghora.
Now, the Seventh Chapter
The Procedure of Kumbhaka (Kumbhaka Vidhi)
Prostrating to the Non-dual Śiva for the sake of the worlds, I will explain all Kumbhakas by which a man might gain Siddhi.
